Life coaching is a process that focuses on specific goals of the client. These goals could be about relationships, transitions in a personal or professional life, career choices, personal feelings of unrest, personal projects, and much more (go to Services Provided page to view more). The role of the Professional Life Coach is to help the client determine realistic goals for achieving desired results. The Professional Life Coach can, and does, recommend specific steps for the client to take to achieve the goals.
It is important to note that life coaching and therapy are NOT the same thing. For starters, life coaching focuses solely on the present; what is going on in the client's life that they want to change, what goals they want to set and achieve, and how they will go about achieving those goals. On the other hand, therapy can focus on the present, the past, revising current belief systems, and deep familial issues, to name a few. In addition, as a Professional Life Coach, it is my responsibility to bring up therapy as a viable option as I see fit. Please note that these are not the only differences between therapy and life coaching.
Below, you will find that I have detailed the typical life coaching process. This may vary from person to person, in terms of meetings and progress, but this gives a general idea of what to expect for those who are interested.

MeetingConsultation
First - Last Last |
Discussion OverviewThe consultation is a brief conversation over what life coaching is, why the client is seeking life coaching, and figuring out immediate changes that can be implemented for the client.
The client and Life Coach will discuss goals and steps to achieve goals as desired by the client. Each subsequent meeting will be spent reviewing the goals and steps to achieve those goals. The Life Coach will keep recommending tactics and specific steps for achieving goals. The Life Coach and client will discuss any current problems related to achieving those goals. The Life Coach acts as a personal cheerleader, mentor, and friend to the client throughout the process. The last meeting is much like the others. The Life Coach and client will review goals, steps to achieve goals, and any problems the client may have. When the client deems time, they will let the Life Coach know that they do not feel the need for Life Coaching anymore, as they have achieved the desired goals. |
